SMAC

The DIN-A2 foldable invitation card for Christian Henkel’s and Monika Michalko’s first art exhibition at Berlin-based SMAC gallery was created in 2022. We wanted to focus on a design that reflects the art itself and began by playing with the same visual elements: warmth, fantastic fragments, playful lines, and plenty of color.

The exhibition titled “THE GHOST AND THE COPS” is characterized by a body of collaborative work. In mutual interplay, pictures were swapped and painted over. This artistic ping-pong game is represented on our invitation by two abstract image masks that unite to become one, each showing one of the artist’s works. The typography is arranged in playful lines around the shapes while juxtaposing the serif font “Sigurd” with the experimental “Dudler” – just as Michalko’s painterly and Henkel’s sculptural work are in contrast to one another.
